Questions
- Do test card numbers work on a live checkout?
- No. Test cards only work in the test mode (sandbox) of their payment provider. On a live checkout they are declined, and no money moves.
- Which expiry date and CVC should I use?
- Stripe and Braintree take any future expiry date and any 3 digits (4 for American Express). Adyen needs its fixed test expiry and CVC, shown next to each card.
- How do I test a declined payment or insufficient funds?
- Use the card of that scenario: each provider page lists the cards by result. Some providers pick the result by the cardholder name or the amount instead, which the table says.
- How do I test 3D Secure?
- Use a 3D Secure card. The provider then shows its test authentication page, where you complete or fail the challenge as described on the provider page.
